Spring Training Baseball
Simply put, baseball spring training is as much a part of the attraction to Scottsdale as great restaurants, world class resorts and shopping. The tradition began in 1956 when the Baltimore Orioles decided to come to sunny Arizona for their spring training. Later the Orioles were replaced by the Boston Red Sox, who in turn were replaced by the Chicago Cubs in 1967. In 1964 Scottsdale Stadium was deeded to the City of Scottsdale on the condition that the City maintain the Stadium and the Charros staff and manage Spring Training baseball.

Currently, the Charros and City of Scottsdale play host to the San Francisco Giants during February and March every year, and the Scottsdale Stadium is filled to capacity for most Cactus League games. The Charros' partnership with the Giants is stronger than ever with an agreement that will keep the Giants and Spring Training in Scottsdale through the year 2025. Every year it is estimated that spring training generates in excess of 10 million in revenues to the City and its merchants.
